Freelance writing job opportunities by IAPWE (International Association of Professional Writers and Editors) can be seen flooding different job boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can\u2019t remember exactly where I came across their job posting, but I guess it was\u00a0Problogger Jobs<\/a>\u00a0with a link that redirected to the Workable<\/a>\u00a0job portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, I have come across their job offer in my email at least four times this year.<\/p>\n\n\n

The email that sent this offer has\u00a0csapptrack\u00a0as its primary domain, and when you visit the site, it automatically redirects to\u00a0the iapwe website<\/a>. It is probably a portal under the main site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the first email, since I have had my fair share of online writing scams, I did a Google search of their name and then, BOOM!!! Lots of sorry case reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before I talk about other people\u2019s experiences, here is mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, I am sure I once applied for this job, but I cannot remember ever applying again after that, and I still get emails about job offers from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have nothing against this; however, here is my red flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the registration form<\/a> attached to the email is clicked, at first glance, you will not be presented with their various membership plans until you complete the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iapwe, what are you trying to achieve?<\/strong>\u00a0Be upfront with the membership aspect of your site, and then I will know whether to register.<\/p>\n\n\n

Once all details are filled in, then BAAM! You have the membership plans displayed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t a red flag until you select the Basic (FREE) plan and are forced to try out their Professional Membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why can\u2019t I just try out the platform with the FREE plan and then decide to upgrade the plan later?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Clicking\u00a0Next<\/strong>\u00a0will redirect you to a PayPal sign-in page. Once again, if this delivers the expected results, maybe I might be wrong, but others have had horrible experiences,\u00a0screaming, don\u2019t try it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A female writer, Bonny Albo, who narrated her experience after going through with the process, said in a Medium post<\/a>, \u201c31 days later, I receive an email from my bank. \u201cYour account is overdrawn, please log in now to remedy\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile the IAPWE website says you can email them to cancel, it\u2019s not true.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe only solution is to cancel the membership on PayPal, and then do your best to contact them to get a refund. Keep all these emails, screenshot them, and then forward them to PayPal after about a week.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another writer, Mykii, in a blog post<\/a> said, \u201cUnfortunately, I had gone ahead and subscribed to the paid version because I really wanted to see if there would be any true benefit to having this access. Since there wasn\u2019t I immediately decided to cancel my subscription \u2013 which is not easy. First there\u2019s a form to fill out, and then (according to a few other bloggers who went through this ordeal) Amy will and confirm that you want to cancel.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe not a scam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A Reddit user<\/a> who narrated his experience said; \u201cI worked for them for 6 months years ago. They seemed extremely enthusiastic about me at first, but continuously sent my work back for nit picky, ridiculous edits. Every time I sent it back, I\u2019d get it right back. It was never good enough. They never actually published any of the 10+ articles I sent in. I was paying them $15\/mo for their board. In my opinion, they\u2019re just \u00e0 more professional\/legitimate-sounding content mill. (sic)\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another Reddit user<\/a> has this to say; \u201cI actually know quite a few people that have secured writing gigs via IAPWE. They\u2019re not a \u201cknown scam\u201d, they just need a lot of effort to utilize their resources, which can be tedious. I think many people want a quick, easy, high-paying assignment, with little to no effort. As IAPWE is not a get-rich-quick site, it leads to many negative reviews. The moral is: it\u2019s not for everyone. Just because something doesn\u2019t work for you, does not mean it won\u2019t work for others.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
